Calabria was the ancient Enotria, the land of wine, and Gabriele Bafaro with his work wants to recover the ancient roots of his fascinating region.
We are in Acri, at the foot of the Sila National Park and the vineyards are located in the area of San Demetrio Corone, a very ancient area of Sibaritide and particularly suited to viticulture, where Gabriele has resumed the cultivation of ancient vineyards.
Gabriele is an archaeologist of wine, he deals with studying the ancient techniques of winemaking used by the ancient Greeks and then by the Romans, and through the project “Acroneo” is committed to recreating the wine drunk by the ancients, a project that enjoys the patronage of the school of archaeological heritage of Matera and the University of Basilicata, and is an example of experimental archaeology.
This route of reconstruction of the ancient winemaking takes place through underground amphorae which do not exist on the market but are unique amphorae made only for the Gabriele Winery, as the shape, clays and soil in which the amphorae are placed give a particular impression to the final wine.
In addition to the Amphora line, Gabriele also produces wines aged in oak barrels.
The company is conducted through organic farming therefore without the use of pesticides, chemical additives and products that can harm the environment trying to protect life within the vineyard and therefore the balance between soil, flora and fauna.
A glass of Acroneo wine will give thejoy of an evening with friends, the family warmth and the thrill of the legend. The true vocation of Acroneo wine is to be born from the myth and delivered to modernity thanks to the rediscovery of techniques now remote and vines such as Magliocco, Guarnaccia Nera, Greco Bianco and white Malvasia.

We are in San Demetrio Corone at the foot of the Sila National Park, and here on clay soil, the grapes of Magliocco that Francesco cultivates in organic farming are born. This wine ferments spontaneously in barrique, left to macerate for ten days and ages in barrique before continuing its rest in bottle before being marketed. Raffaele’s wine will appeal to lovers of wines of character but elegant, with scents of red fruits and spices, good structure and persistence. Serve at 16 /18° degrees.

Wine fermented and macerated in underground earthenware amphora in which it ages for about 6 months and then passes into the bottle. A Magliocco of 15.5 degrees of well integrated alcohol, an intense ruby red with hints of black berries and spices, to which is added a silky and elegant tannins and a full taste that make the wine really rewarding. It matches with structured first courses, red meats, roasts, lamb, game and mature cheeses.
